Both articles mention the same element which is the “open source”. Those articles explain the advantage of open source. The advantage of it is that people can use it for free. Developed open source led to improve the creativity of designers. The first article ,' The Programmed Designer’. focuses on explaining the relationship between Adobe, Apple and graphic design. Today, Adobe and Apple are definitely necessary for the profession, especially for graphic designers. Through this program, the production graphic design and identity of the graphic design is improved. As a result of this situation, most students learned these programs in school and studios. Adobe is not free for designers, so they pay the monthly or yearly fees. However, thinking about other points of view, through this program tends to give restriction to exploring other design tools and ways. This is because this program is not based on open source. The second article, ‘Microsoft and the Yeomen Coders', concentrates on describing characteristics of open source and its role in our life. Open source gives a lot of chances for programmers to copy and modify code. However, software companies dissent this source as well as the majority of programmers who had learned their craft. The author claims that open source should be more common for designers. It is quite difficult for me to consider the best solution to this issue. I think it is not a simple thing, so I would like to communicate with classmates to solve this problem.

In my opinion, Adobe and Apple are not different one. The majority of people consider that Adobe and Apple are today synonymous , which are really important programs for designers. It is difficult to think about doing graphic design without these programs. Actually, I usually use these programs to design motion, typography, and other designs. This is because it is really useful for us to create what we want. One of the crucial graphic design skills is using visually interesting elements appropriately through using different tools. Even though designers still use these programs, they should not stop thinking about innovative ideas.

Turing Complete User

Users have received a bad reputation after considering the emergence of technology and the relationship between humans and computers. However, she believes that invisible users are more problematic than invisible computers. In addition, she would like users to use more internet and applications and say what they really want to in the Internet world. I absolutely understand the think of Lialina’s definition of the user. This is because more and more people want to show what they want and what they want to show on their website in contemporary times. It is not difficult to create a website in person. According to the second article, “website allow the author to create not only works but also the world (the rooms, the arrangement of rooms, the architecture!)” Through this opinion of the website, I also realise that the website is for developers and promotes company promotion and personal users who can show their world to people.

I have a specific purpose for using websites. The goal is that I usually promote my artwork through a website. Thus, I think I am like an artist - user. I definitely agree with Schwulst’s description of the user. She said that the website is like a garden, shelf and plant. I also can metaphor my website as my art gallery. I always exhibit my art gallery on my website to show my drawing and painting. In addition, it is one of the best places for me to express who I am and what the purpose of my drawing is. People come into my exhibition for free and look around. I sometimes feel exhausted managing my website, but it is useful for me to become an artist in the world.

Math, Logic, Design? with Just van Rossum, Type@Cooper

I could know different types of open sources for designers to design typefaces and animation through watching videos. I am really interested in the various shapes of typefaces looping animation. I also would like to use a draw bot to create a short GIF to post on my tumblr. Anyway, I looked for a different open-source style except for what he introduced.

The first open-source is ‘Inkscape’ which is much like Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw. People can use it for free. One of the most significant advantages of this program is that it supports diverse types of file formats. As he mentioned of the draw bot, this program only supports GIF format, which files must be small. However, Inkscape can make various file formats, so it is helpful for me to post high-quality graphics on my website.

The second open source is ‘ Blender’, a 3D drawing creation software. I really like to draw 3D drawings, so it is really effective program for me to express my drawing, which looks realistic. I can use various brush tools to draw what I want. I am concerned about using it because some designers think it’s complex at first.

The third open source is ‘ font forge’, a font editor. It is light and can make your type, true type, and postscript design smooth. I am really like to design fonts, so it is also useful for me to create my creative font.

I am a little bit difficult to type code to design 2D and 3D animation. Therefore, I searched for more drawing types of opensource. I think these programs can be accessible for people with difficulties like me to design graphic design.
